A New York Times’ article described Hilversum as a leafy suburban hamlet southeast of Amsterdam. It is a community filled with media, greenery and attractions.

Hilversum is situated about twenty kilometres southeast of Amsterdam. It’s surrounded by nature, which makes it an ideal place to stay. The surrounding forests, heath and cultivation make it a prefect area for bike rides or long walks. The scenery is very diverse. The centre of Hilversum is remarkable as well, especially its architecture. The city’s architect Willem Marinus Dudok has put his mark on the town in the first half of the twentieth century. One of the most prominent buildings worth seeing is the city hall, where the town is governed. You can visit the premises if you make an appointment upfront.

Hilversum is the media capitol of the Netherlands. Practically all of the television networks and studios are situated here. A remarkable attraction is the Dutch Institute of Sound and Vision. It looks astonishing on the outside and the inside presents an historical masterpiece, for it keeps record of all of the still existing Dutch television and radio broadcasts.

You can find a lot of hotels and B&B’s in Hilversum and its surroundings. Moreover, Hilversum lies in the centre of Holland, which makes it very easy to go on daytrips to Amsterdam, Utrecht or Giethoorn. Within twenty minutes you can be in the heart of Amsterdam if you go by train. Even Schiphol International Airport is only thirty minutes away.
