all across the city. In Hilversum you can find 660 different types
of trees, the largest variety of species in Holland. The beautiful
botanical garden Pinetum Blijdestein adds to this with an enormous
collection of rare trees and plants, under which one of the most
complete collections of conifers in the world.

Hilversum has a great variety of walking routes. Whether you have a
steady pace or if you like wandering about quietly, anyone can
explore Hilversum's greenery.
Varied Routes
The historical route called the Voetstappenpad is 25 kilometres
long and crosses beautiful forests and vast heath lands in the Gooi
Nature Reserve. For anyone who as some energy left, there is the
Peerlekamp route which follows unpaved tracks and steep paths
towards the forest Corversbos. For the early birds there is an
organised walking route through the Laarder Wasmeer on the first
Sunday of each Month. It takes you across water ponds and the old
bird cabin to old hollows and sand drifts.

Along the green roads
The Gooi and Vecht region has a network of biking routes. It simply
means that you can follow the signs from crossing to crossing. Each
sign has a number so you can easily create your own biking tour.
Furthermore, the exquisite ANWB-routes, which are indicated with
signs or mapped out in biking guides, also lead you to the green
roads and paths of Hilversum.

Hilversum's gardens
Many green thumbs have contributed to the, often ancient, gardens
of Hilversum. Most of the gardens are open for public and are a
great way to spend a daytrip in Hilversum in each season.
The botanical garden Pinetum Blijdenstijn has a unique collection
of endangered plant species. Moreover, it presents the most
complete collection of conifers in the world. The famous landscape
architect Springer designed the Bosdrift cemetery, with its
extravagant classical English style and winding paths and
unexpected vistas. The Costerus garden holds over 1.200 different
types of plants. It has many flowerbeds with annual and medicinal
herbs, but also a beautiful pond with extraordinary vegetation.
